A short service of evening prayer as the day ends.

It is the final office in the Christian tradition of Canonical Hours.

This will be sung by the choir in candlelight.

Free car parking in December

Derbyshire Dales District Council is offering free parking from 2pm each day throughout December on all of their off-street car parks. This is on top of the residents’ parking concession badge which allows Dales residents to park free of charge up to 11am and after 4pm. The free parking extends to midnight each day.

The scheme is being promoted to encourage people to shop local and support local businesses and economy in the Derbyshire Dales. It is the 11th consecutive year the council has given free parking over the festive period.

The District Council operates car parks across many parts of the Derbyshire Dales and in the four main town centres of Matlock, Bakewell, Wirksworth and Ashbourne. To find locations of the council’s car parks with December free parking please click here.

PLEASE NOTE – free parking after 2pm is only valid on off-street car parks that are operated by Derbyshire Dales District Council. You can check if the car park is owned by the District Council by checking the pay and display machines and boards in the car park. Normal charges and restrictions will still apply at all on-street car parks and those operated by Derbyshire County Council and private owners.

Bin collections in Elton in the two weeks AFTER Christmas day will be one day LATER than usual. So, as bins are normally collected on a Wednesday, they will be collected on a Thursday following Christmas Day.

Your recycling (blue bin/blue box and bag) will be collected on Thursday 27 December 2018.
Your grey bin or black sacks will be collected on Thursday 4 January 2019.

Other points to note regarding your Christmas waste collection…

• Garden waste collections will be suspended from 22 December to 5 January inclusive.
• Food waste will still be collected weekly over the Christmas period.
• REAL Christmas trees will be collected from the edge of your property between Monday 7 January and Friday 1 February for collection. Please make sure all decorations are removed!
• Non-glitter cards and wrapping paper can be left in your blue bin insert or blue bag.
• Crews WILL NOT be able to collect any additional household waste. So, please make sure all household waste is contained in your grey bin or 4 black standard sized sacks on collections day.
• Crews WILL take excess recycling. Simply place extra materials at the side of your recycling containers, making sure it is easily identifiable as recycling materials.

The funeral service for John Dawe will take place on Friday 9 November 2018 at 2pm.

The service and burial will both take place at Elton All Saints Church.

Refreshments will be available in the Village Hall following the service.

Everyone welcome. Please let other people know about the service who were friends of or knew John.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of World War One, a Remembrance Service will be held in Elton All Saints Church on 11 November at 10:45am. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Elton Local History Group have also put together a booklet titled Elton Remembers. The booklet contains biographies of the servicemen with connections to Elton who gave their lives in the during the First and Second World Wars.
