Below is a message from Canon David Truby of the Wirksworth Team Ministry which updates the community on the installation of new toilets and proposals to change Sunday Service provision.
“Residents in the village will have seen the activity around the church as we have been making progress on the provision of a new toilet facility in church. We are grateful to all those who have contributed towards its cost through our ‘Flush Fund’, which, along with grants from the Diocese of Derby and the Exton Trust have enable the work to proceed. The new facility will enable us to make the back of the church more accessible and useful for meetings and events which will help contribute towards the life of the village. We plan to have a thanksgiving service on 19th May at 3pm, to which everyone is welcome”.
“One other issue that we have been grappling with of late is the question of service provision on Sundays. Attendance has been tailing off over a period of time, and preparation for services is left to a very small group of people. This year, it is unlikely that we shall be able to elect a new churchwarden, which leaves us with no one to take on the particular responsibilities that are borne locally”.
“The church council has considered the possibility of moving to just two services per month (though the major festivals of Christmas and Easter would happen as normal). Before we commit ourselves to such a course, we are keen to hear the views of all those who consider themselves to be ‘stakeholders’ in the life of the church. Our Annual Parochial Church Meeting is to take place on Tuesday 9th April at 7.30 and people may wish to offer a view at that. Otherwise you could just let Anne Wellington, our churchwarden, know or email me on david.truby@outlook.com”.
“With thanks and best wishes”.
