Derbyshire Dales District Council have issued a statement setting out a plan to tackle the ongoing problems with waste collections. The official statement is below and tells you everything you need to know.
The first point to note is that from 26 July 2021, food waste collections will be suspended. Food waste must now be added to your household/general waste. This is to help free-up crews to focus on all other bins and containers.
The second point is that the collection of excess recycling will also be suspended. Any recycling that cannot be contained in your blue bin or containers will not be taken by crews. This is to give crews more time to complete the rounds and reduce the number of trips to the tips throughout the working day.
More details are below.
These changes are operational matters and have not been decided by councillors. If you have any comments or questions, you can contact your District Councillor, Colin Swindell using the following details…

Operational changes for bin collections from 26 July
These are the temporary operational changes put together by the District Council and Serco to help alleviate current bin collection disruptions. The changes will start from 26 July for a period of three months.
We apologise again for the inconvenience but the aim of this plan is to ensure that all 34,000 households in the Derbyshire Dales get the best possible waste collection service in the current emergency situation.
π There will be no food waste collections (we are currently the only authority in Derbyshire to offer a separate food waste collection service).
π Food waste should be put in household waste containers for the period of these emergency measures.
π To help us complete rounds no *excess* recycling will be collected – please contain recycling in your blue bin (*or* 2 blue bags + blue box for residents on a sack collection round who don’t have a bin).
π During the emergency measures, if we donβt manage to collect your waste within 4 days of its scheduled collection we won’t be able to return until your next collection date.
π However, where we have missed an assisted collection or bins have been missed for a number of weeks we will do everything we can to get back to you. Continue to report any missed collections at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/missedcollection
π We’re also looking to introduce mobile ‘bring sites’ to hotspot locations across the district on Saturdays – a waste truck where residents can bring excess recycling. More on this will follow later.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
