A brief update on local services and matters impacted by the Coronavirus outbreak as of 29 March 2020.

The Parish Council is concerned about the number of people not listening to the government’s advice to stay at home to prevent spreading the Coronavirus.
There is a worryingly high number of hikers and groups walking though Elton putting our community at risk.
PLEASE STAY AT HOME SAVE LIVES
Anyone can spread Coronavirus. The only reasons to leave home are:
To shop for basic necessities or pick up medicine
To travel to work when you absolutely cannot work from home
To exercise once a day, alone or with members of your household
Do not meet others, even friends or family
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak and limited public access to Winster Village Shop (which houses the Post Office), new revised opening times for the Post Office have been put in place until further notice.
Winster Post Office will now open between 9am and 12:30pm from Monday to Saturday. The Post Office will not open any afternoon and closed all day on Sunday.
Caralyn (Caz) who runs the Post Office passes on her sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused to her customers, but we hope you will continue to support her and this valued local service at this time.

Elton Beer Festival 2020 – Cancelled
Bin collections here in the Derbyshire Dales are being impacted by the coronavirus outbreak. Staff absences due to self-isolation measures mean garden waste collections will be suspended after Friday to enable our teams to focus on recycling and general household waste collections.
Food waste will be collected fortnightly – with household waste – rather than weekly.
Please note there is always a possibility that rounds will not be completed in the current exceptional circumstances as Serco have adopted the Government’s social distancing guidelines, meaning two rather than the usual three staff on each truck.
Our appeal to you is please be patient. There is no need to report a missed collection in the coming days. If your food, recycling or general waste containers are not emptied as scheduled, please leave them out and we will get to you as soon as possible.

Although Derbyshire Dales car parks remain open for the benefit of residents who are working from home or making essential visits as set out by Government, clear signage will be put up asking motorists if they need to be there and to follow current Government coronavirus measures.
Parking charges will be suspended temporarily until further notice.

Thank you to everybody who has signed up to be a standby volunteer in the community to assist those residents who are self-isolating. We have approximately 40 volunteers!Residents who are self-isolating can get support by calling either Colin Swindell on 07816 986 956 or Carolyn Wilson on 01629 650 757. We will get one of our volunteers to assist.

Derbyshire Dales District Council and Derbyshire County Council have suspended the majority of non-essential services to enable them to focus on priority services during the outbreak. Anybody needing to access services should call the relevant local authority rather than visit the offices in person.
Charges will be temporarily suspended for off-street car parks operated by Derbyshire Dales District Council to help those needing to access essential services in our towns. Signs will be erected, however, reminding residents about the government guidelines about staying at home and not using this as an opportunity to park for free and walk around town.
Bin collections have been impacted by the virus. Staff absences due to self-isolation mean that garden waste collections will be suspended from Friday to enable crews to focus on collecting recycling and general household waste. Food was will be collected fortnightly – with household waste – rather than weekly.
Household recycling sites have been closed until further notice.
Derbyshire Dales District Council has taken the decision to ‘close’ parks, skate parks, tennis courts and play areas to prevent social gatherings. Some of these areas can be physically closed off, but other larger and open areas cannot be enforced. Public cooperation is, therefore, requested. Public toilets operated by the District Council will also be closed. Derbyshire County Council will be closing some of its country parks.
Weekly markets in our towns have been suspended until further notice.
Elton Parish Council will be working remotely during the outbreak and will not be meeting for the foreseeable future.
Elton Village Hall will not be available for use whilst government guidelines restrict social gatherings.
With the Coronavirus spreading across the country , Elton Parish Council is setting-up a voluntary support group for those residents in our community who choose to self-isolate.
Please see below a copy of the leaflet being distributed to every household in Elton and Gratton. The leaflet includes details on how you can get support if you choose to self-isolate, how you can help by signing-up to be a volunteer and where you can get medical advice and the latest information on the virus.
Further information and updates will be provided to residents on this website as and when necessary or you can sign-up to our emails by sending you email address to elton@live.co.uk
